History

The Junkers Ju87 Stuka quickly gained notoriety as one of the most feared aircraft of the Second World War. This two-man dive bomber first entered combat over Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Despite its outdated look, the Stuka incorporated some advanced features like automatic dive brakes, though its overall design was considered obsolete.

In 1940, the Stuka operated effectively in clear skies over Poland, France, and the Low Countries. However, during the Battle of Britain, it faced strong resistance from RAF fighters over southern England, leading to significant losses. The Stuka later saw action in the Balkans and the Western Desert, and continued its role as a tank destroyer in Russia until the war’s conclusion.

An Airfix collection is incomplete without the formidable presence of the Junkers Ju87 Stuka.
