Keeping Thieves at Bay
Contactless cards are great. Instead of having to fiddle around with pin numbers you can just swipe your purse or wallet and get on with your day. However, as with any new technology, thieves are always looking for ways to take advantage and the risk of accidental or fraudulent payments have been well publicised.
Rather than give it up as a bad job, VoyagerBlue came up with a simple, elegant solution. From the outside the VoyagerBlue Card Shield looks like any other plastic credit card but a specially designed EMI shielding layer inside the products forms a block on fraudulent scanning. By placing it next to your contactless card, the side of the wallet which faces outwards is protected whilst the other can still be easily scanned when you need. The VoyagerBlue range also includes a larger ePassport Shield, which slips inside passports to help prevent identity theft.
Having worked with The University of Bolton on the initial research for the card, VoyagerBlue needed a development partner to help them transform the designs into a finished product as Managing Director, Andre Kay explained:
“When we began this product development journey we were looking outside the UK for a solution because we simply didn’t think it existed in the UK, then we discovered TBA PS.”
Here at TBA PS we’ve been working on EMI Shielding products [Link to other blog] for over three decades. In addition to our comprehensive range of standard products our highly experienced research and development team can also help achieve a solution which meets your exact needs. The shielding technology we helped develop for the VoyagerBlue product range blocks the frequency used within all contactless cards.
“TBA PS has been an exceptional development partner.” Andre Kay added “Without their expertise and willingness to listen and help an entrepreneurial business we would never have been able to bring our product to market. TBA PS has taken us through this process every step of the way and are always there to offer advice and support, not only for our current product, but our evolving solution too.
This truly has been a truly North West development project from start to finish with Plastic Card Services in Macclesfield now manufacturing and distributing our products. The area is a rich source of technology and has some exceptional production capabilities of all kinds and we only hope that companies research local (UK) suppliers before looking abroad.”
