History

On 15th September 1916, at Flers-Courcelette, a groundbreaking weapon made its debut on the Western Front – the tank. This innovative machine altered the course of warfare, providing a breakthrough in the trench warfare stalemate that had characterised the conflict. The ‘male’ Mk.I Tank was armed with significant firepower, boasting two 6-pdr naval guns and four Hotchkiss machine guns, making it a formidable opponent against enemy positions and defences. The introduction of these armoured giants marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of military technology and tactics during the Great War.
