Description
ECP 280 is a magnetic compound based on special blends of magnetic additive compounded into TPE in such a way as to optimise physical and magnetic properties during processing. Normally supplied blue.
APPLICATIONS
ECP 280 is recommended for use in applications that require the usual advantages normally associated with TPE where magnetic detection requirements also exist, e.g..
- Grip handles
- Hoses/tubing
- Gaskets
- Conveyor rollers
PROPERTIES
Specific Gravity 0.96 g cm-3
Shore A hardness 73
Tensile Strength 10.1 Mpa
Elongation @ break 450 %
RECOMMENDED PROCESSING CONDITIONS
MACHINE
It is recommended that an in-line reciprocating screw machine be used to injection mould ECP 280, but it is possible to process this material on plunger injection moulding machines.
Processing conditions are naturally dependant on the equipment used. However, general experience has shown that the ECP 280 is not as dependent on temperature as on shear hence any shearing stress can result in variation of the material viscosity, such that generally the higher the shearing stress the lower the viscosity. For injection moulding barrel temperatures between 150-185°C. have proved satisfactory. High injection speed and high screw revolutions are recommended
During profile extrusion it has been found suitable to have the barrel temperature at 170-200°C at the feed zone and up to 195-215°C at the extrusion head and die. Machines with length to diameter ratio 20/1 to 28/1 and compression ratios from 2 to 3.5 are suggested.
USE OF REGRIND
Runners, sprues and scrap mouldings can be reground and blended with virgin material. Regrind additions should not exceed 10% by weight of the virgin material; otherwise some reduction in properties may be experienced.
DO NOT USE A MAGNETIC SEPARATOR IN THE MOULDING MACHINE AND HOPPER, THE GRAINS WILL SEPARATE AND STICK TO THE MAGNET!!
